Taxonomic Notes:

Despite being included in Mohr's Plant Life of Alabama (1901), no specimens were ever located to verify the occurence in the Alabama flora.  Because of this, the taxon was excluded from a state wide checklist (Kral et al 2011) and a family treatment for North Alabama (Spaulding et al 2018).  The 2019 discovery in Jackson County verified this taxon as an element of the Alabama flora thus now included in the Alabama Plant Atlas (Keener et al 2024).--B.R.
