Species:Solidago buckleyi Torr. & A. Gray
Common Name:Buckley's Goldenrod
Habitat:Shaley or sandstone areas just below brow of mountain bluff.
Associated Ecological Communities:**
Growth Habit:Herb
USDA Symbol:**
Plant Notes:One of our rarest goldenrods.
Taxonomic Notes:After the original publication in 1842 citing the type location in "interior of Alabama" no other specimens were seen from Alabama for over 160 years. However, it was found to be prevalent in southern Missouri, and to lesser extent southern Illinois, northern Arkansas and western Kentucky. In 2012, Semple and Gandhi designated a neotype from Missouri as no other Alabama material was available citing issues with a potential type fragment at NY. Solidago buckleyi was rediscovered in Alabama from Chandler Mountain in St. Clair County (Semple & Keener 2015) based on a specimen collected in 2007 (Keener #4013).--B. Keener
