Plant Notes:Nimblewill is a native herbaceous perennial in the Grass family (Poaceae). It can be found throughout Alabama. Nimblewill grows in low forests, in shady lawns, along trails, and in other moist disturbed habitats. Plants are perennial and often stoloniferous, forming small patches. The stems are at first erect but becoming decumbent and rooting at the nodes with age. The stems are round, green or purplish in color, and glabrous. Leaves are alternate, linear to lanceolate in outline, and glabrous or scabridulous. Flowers are produced in narrow terminal panicles. The branches of the panicle are appressed. Panicles are grayish or silvery green in color. The lemma is awned and the glumes are tiny and inconspicuous. The fruit is a fusiform shaped grain. Nimblewill is somewhat weedy and can invade shady lawns and low areas along trails and paths.—A. Diamond.
