Taxonomic Notes:This species was long treated as Zigadenus leimanthoides (A. Gray) A. Gray or more recently Stenanthium leimanthoides (A. Gray) Zomlefer & Judd), an entity now known to be restricted to the southern Appalachians but outside of Alabama to the NE. In 2017, Sorrie and Weakley demonstrated robust plants usually bearing panicles along the Gulf Coastal Plain were distinct from S. leimanthoides which led them to describe a new taxon S. macrum Sorrie and Weakley. It was later discovered that an older applicable name for these plants existed (Tracyanthus angustifolius var. texanus Bush 1906). Sorrie and Weakley (2018) resurrected this taxon and transferred to the appropriate genus Stenanthium as S. texanum (Bush) Sorrie & Weakley. Specimens below still attributed to S. leimanthoides and Z. leimanthoides should be reevaluated but will most likely be identifiable with Stenanthium texanum.--B.R. Keener
