Plant Notes:Yellow Groove Bamboo is an introduced perennial member of the Grass family (Poaceae). A native of northeast China, it has been planted widely in the United States. In Alabama it has escaped at several location. Yellow Groove Bamboo is a running bamboo, producing long underground rhizomes that give rise to upright stems some distance from the original plant. As such it is very invasive. Yellow Groove Bamboo is evergreen and grows to a height of twenty five to thirty feet. The culms (stems) can be up to two and one half inches in diameter. The leaves are lanceolate and olive green in color. The leaves are evergreen except when temperature fall into the single digits. The culms have a groove between the nodes (points at which branches are attached). The culms are green in color with thin yellow stripes in the groove. A. Diamond
